Worship
Our church sanctuary, with its new stained glass windows, offer sacred space for reverent worship. Beauty is an important means for connecting with the transcendent, and our offerings of music and use of vestments, altar linens, vessels and flowers are some of the ways we glorify God.
Worship ties all of our lives together. Our worship is centered on the Holy Eucharist and is ordered according to the Book of Common Prayer. Gathered around the table, we come to know the depth of hospitality and love of God for us. Forgiven and renewed, we go into the world and share the gifts we have received.
Worship at St. Matthew’s is a sacred and joy-filled experience. We strive to offer worship services that are reverent, relevant, joyful, and welcoming. Children are welcome and are active participants in our 10:00 a.m. service, where they may serve as acolytes.
Our worship is determined by the liturgical calendar which includes the seasons of Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, and the season after Pentecost. We have baptisms, confirmations, weddings, memorials and funerals at St. Matthew’s. Our services follow the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer. Each Sunday we celebrate Holy Eucharist, beginning with the liturgy of the word in which the Bible is read, a sermon presented, prayers of the people offered, and our sins confessed. The liturgy of the table follows, which brings us into communion with Christ and each other. Through the year, we have special services including the St. Francis Day Blessing of the Animals, St. Matthews Day, and Veterans Day to name a few.
We are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for personal prayer. In addition, we are blessed with an outdoor garden sitting area for personal meditation and prayer.
